Take me out to the ballgame…

Take me out to the ballgame...

We went to the Arkansas Travelers baseball game with my family yesterday afternoon. It was pretty hot sitting in the sun in front of the scoreboard, but we had a pretty good time. We barely watched the game, because there were so many other things to do. They had inflatables set up for the kids, so James and Eliza had fun jumping and sliding on those. The kids even got to run the bases after the game. James' favorite part, though, was probably getting to eat cotton candy! (Thanks Jon and Adrienne!) Check out our pictures! I managed to remember the sunscreen this time, so the only parts of us that got sunburned were the spots I missed. The kids were so tired after the game that they both fell asleep on the way home. We got home just in time to turn around and go to community group. I was exhausted by the time we got home last night, but I still had to give the kids a bath and try to get Eliza to sleep. I finally had to leave her in her bed looking at a book, because I kept falling asleep while I was rocking her and when I was singing to her in her bed. I got a pretty good night's sleep, but I still feel worn out today.

We got a new window sill today! The repairman from our termite company came and replaced the termite-infested window sill in our computer room. When he tore the old one off, there were still a lot of termite swarmers crawling around, so he treated inside the wall under the window. Hopefully that will take care of all the termites. Our termite guy, Lance, had already treated around it twice, because there were still termites moving after the first time he came. When he was here the second time, James came up to him and said, "Your repair guy will make it look like it never happened. You told me that last time you were here." Lance was surprised: "I don't even remember saying that," he said, "but I guess I did!"

Eliza's potty training is going pretty well, even though she has had a few accidents. She is wearing her big-girl panties all the time now! She no longer cries for her paci at night, but she still has a hard time getting to sleep. She is such a big girl!

In other news, I think I am catching Jay's virus, because I have started having a little bit of a sore throat today. Poor Jay can't seem to get over his sickness, and he has been too busy at work to take a much-needed break and get the rest he needs to get well. Hopefully things will slow down for him this week and he will be able to get over this virus!

Bunco!

Last night I was invited for my first bunco experience with a group of ladies from church. I must say I feel quite the socialite! I did have fun talking to people, but the best part was getting to have a couple hours without the kids! (Thanks, Jay!) I'm not sure if I could do it regularly, though—I am such an introvert that it took a lot of energy, even as much fun as it was. I'm apparently not very good at the game; I came in second-to-last place so not only did I not win, I didn't even get the loser's prize! At least I got to see what girls do at a bunco party!

Blessed

Well, I have been reminded just how very blessed we are. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by Hurricane Katrina. All of our family and friends in that area that we have heard from seemed to have escaped without major damage, although most of them are still without power. It is amazing how much we take for granted! But it is also amazing how God continues to bless us.

Both James and Eliza are fighting off small colds at the moment, but they are doing well despite having the sniffles. James's birthday is tomorrow, and I'm afraid the terrible twos have already started. He's a good boy most of the time but he can throw a tantrum! Eliza has the cutest smile—it melts my heart everytime. But don't be fooled, she also has her fussy periods, and that can be a little wearying. But we are all doing great, and it really is hard to imagine what people are going through not very far away.

Welcome

Welcome to the Parker family's new webpages! Our previous website is five years and three hundred miles out of date, so hopefully this new weblog format will be easier to maintain.

I have been intending to produce some fresh webpages for years now, but the final impetus was the series of "James stories" emails I've been sending out to friends and family for the past several weeks. As I have occasionally found someone new to share them with, I've been digging through my sent mail and forwarding and reforwarding the same messages over and over. I finally got frustrated and started setting up a mailing list, with subscribers and web archives and all that jazz, when I realized that was so last millennium. So, instead… voilà! The Parker family blog. Enjoy!
