Busy busy!

We have been busy the last week or so! Last Thursday Jay went down to Brandon to help his mom redo her bedroom. We were excited because we got her old bedroom furniture—we have been looking for a bedroom set for a while, but never found any that we liked. Her set is almost exactly what we had been looking for! She was excited because Jay helped her install cabinets along one wall of the room for extra storage. She also got a smaller bed and a pub table for projects and games. Jay stayed in Brandon until Sunday afternoon. I was home with the kids all weekend, which was extra hard because Eliza was sick with a cold and didn't sleep well. I was also trying to get my house ready to have Community Group from church over Sunday night, and get the bedroom ready for the new furniture! It was hard, but we made it! We are really enjoying our new queen size bed.

I was supposed to have a softball game Monday night, but the other team didn't show up, so we practiced instead. I am a little rusty since I haven't played in 2 years (I was pregnant last year and couldn't play). It was good to be back out in the field!

Right now Jay and I are working on invitations for Adrienne's wedding, which is set for June 10th. We volunteered to print them, so we are trying to get that done so they can be sent out in the next week or so. This weekend we are going to Memphis to see my friends from college, and I am excited about that! I haven't seen most of them since James was 6 months old. But they've been reading the blog, right, girls?

One quick James story: On Sunday I got the kids to church by myself (I even had to be there early for praise team practice) and took James to his new room in our church's brand new children's building that just opened. He was hesitating to go in the unfamiliar room (there were a lot of unhappy kids in there also disturbed by the change) and so I asked him, "Don't you want to go to Sunday School?" He replied, "No thank you, no thank you," even as I was pushing him in the door. At least he's polite!

Easter fun

We went to Memphis this weekend for Easter. On Saturday we went to an Easter egg hunt at my grandparents' church. James was proud of the 5 eggs that he found, especially beacause they were filled with candy! He got to ride a "train" pulled by a four-wheeler and got a dog made from a balloon from one of the clowns. We spent the afternoon at Meemaw and Granddaddy's house, where James hunted more eggs in their yard. Saturday night we dyed some hard-boiled eggs. When I told James we were dyeing eggs, he asked, "Are we killing the eggs?" He thought I was just using the word dying instead of killing, and was very confused. It took me a few minutes to understand what he was talking about!

On Sunday we drove to Jackson, TN to be with Jill and Robbie for Easter. They moved there about a month ago from Louisiana. We are excited about having them so close to Memphis! We went to church with them, ate lunch at Shoney's, and then went to see their new house that has just been completed. The kids were worn out, but we had a good visit. We stopped back by Memphis on the way home and James hunted more Easter eggs at Granny's house. He was very good at finding them—he even found some of the ones we hid for the older kids! Eliza had fun banging the plastic eggs together, and being the center of attention, of course! We also took a few pictures of our adventures.

More funny James

Today James was his typical self, offering lots of blog-worthy material! :) Mammy was helping James get in the car when he sneezed all over her. I tried to explain that he needed to cover his mouth, which he immediately did, but of course it was too late. After Mammy had left to get in her car, he said, "I just needed a hanky." I thought that was really cute and was going to tell Mammy as she was getting in her car. I yelled, "Mom!", but she had already started to shut her door and didn't notice me. I gave up and heard James pipe up from the backseat, "She didn't hear you. She didn't hear you yell 'Mom.'"

James wanted to go to work with Daddy today instead of my Bible study, so I told him that we could maybe go see Daddy at lunch. I called Jay to tell him we might come on over, but he said he would rather work through lunch and come home early. When I hung up, James said, "You hung up on Daddy! I used to hung up on Daddy." (James has talked to Daddy on the phone before and pushed buttons until he hung up on him.) I did not say anything to James about going to eat lunch with Daddy, but when I told him that we were going over to Mammy's house, he said, "No, we have to go to Daddy's work first!" I called Jay to tell him what "super-memory" James had said, and we ended up going to eat with Daddy.

Later we were on our way home from Mammy's house and I saw someone walking with a gas can. "Somebody must have run out of gas," I said almost under my breath. James heard me, though, and he said, "Somebody has gas?" I explained to James that cars need gas to go and when they run out of gas, they stop, and then you have to put more gas in. He contemplated this for a few minutes and then looked out the window and pointed to some cars in a parking lot. "Are they stopped to get more gas?"

Little grown-up

James has been so funny lately as he is beginning to use phrases that he hears from us or tv or books. The other day I took a big bite of something and James said, "I am very impressed!" He has started asking me things like, "What's the prob-e-lem, Mama?" When I ask him if he wants something, he sometimes says, "No thanks, I'm fine." Sometimes he can be very random, like when he woke up from his nap yesterday and asked, "Can I give Eliza a pink hanger?" I guess he was dreaming about hangers! (They are one of his favorite things to play with—don't ask me why.) We rock James before bed, and sometimes I threaten to take him straight to bed if he wiggles too much while I'm holding him. So now after we've rocked and I say, "Let's go get in bed," he often says, "Am I not being still?" He is such a character!

Eliza has started waving at everyone, opening and closing her little fist—it is so cute! She is also clapping a lot now. She is still a mama's baby, but she may be getting a little better. She has a little temper—if I take something away from her, she can get really mad! She is very sweet, though, and gives lots of open-mouth, drooly kisses. I love it!
